“The Bird’s the Word”  Illustrations by Annie Bailey

Opening Reception:  Friday, July 9th 5-8pm

tart presents a series of new work by Annie Bailey.  Bailey returns to her favorite subject matter and medium in a series of  bird illustrations.   Using ink and watercolor pencil she creates finely detailed but still loosely gestural portraits of various avian species.  Not quite Audobon in detail, but not a typical soft watercolor, these sweet little birds charm and engage.

“Birds, to me, are the eternal optimists.  They work hard and earn their living.  Even so, they play and chat with each other like they have no cares in the world.  Their endless energy and beauty bring me joy.  I chose them for this show purely based on my need to study them.  They are a true example of design at its best.  While being perfectly designed for flight, they are also perfectly designed to entertain.  Having grown up on a ranch here in Montana, many an evening was spent watching them dive-bomb each other, land and leave the trees, and swoop the ponds and streams for food.  They are a great example of how to live life:  Work hard and do what you ought to, but after that be sure to be a little daring, always take time to chat with your friends, and have fun!”

                                                                                                   - Annie Bailey

The show will be on display through August 11th, 2010.

There is an eternal landscape, a geography of the soul; we search for its outlines all our lives. -Josephine Hart

By exploring emotionally subjective connections to the local environment, Cherlyn invites the viewer to take their own route when viewing the pieces, from the context of their own experiences.  The exhibit will be on display through March 11th, 2010.

Qwerty Love:  A Font Affair

Drawings and Paintings by Annie Bailey

Opening Reception:  Friday, December 11th 5-8pm

Tartist Annie Bailey explores her love of font and text in an exhibit of new work.  Sketches of vintage typewriters (some with customizable messages) share space with drawings of old grain elevators, signs and other Montana classic images, all rendered in Bailey’s clean, modern style.  A Montana native, Bailey grew up on a ranch and draws inspiration from the things that surrounded her in childhood.  Grain elevators, signs from small town businesses long gone, old billboards, and the typewriter she inherited from her grandmother all draw her eye with words rendered into art.  Currently studying architecture at Montana State University, Bailey’s drawings also reference her love of line, form and structure.

The show will be on display December 11th 2009 through February 11th 2010.
