“My approach to furniture design is based on the idea of the possibility of a change in circumstance and usefulness. The core material of each piece comes from shipping pallets, which are typically disregarded for any purpose beyond their functionality. The worn and rustic nature of these pallets is emphasized in clean simple lines highlighting the quiet beauty of strength.”
Nick Mask grew up in a small town north of Atlanta, Georgia where the summers were long, hot and humid, and the winters were pleasant but short. He was raised in a family that taught him to be resourceful and to improvise with what you have. Throughout his childhood and early adulthood, Nick spent his summers in McAllister, Montana with his grandparents where he developed a love for Montana and the outdoors. In May 2003 he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. Two weeks later, with much anticipation, he moved to Bozeman and began working for a small furniture studio where he developed an interest in using discarded materials to create something new and useful. His art background and love for working with his hands lead him to design and build furniture with shipping pallets that littered the outside walls of nearby warehouses. Nick lives in Bozeman and continues to create new furniture in his studio.
