I have been an artist for as long as I can remember.  I grew up in a household with an art appreciating father and an artist mother who exposed me early on to theater, music, painting and drawing.  After my mother, my next great influences were German Expressionism and folk and primitive art.  While receiving my BFA from Boston University and my MFA at Brooklyn College, I loved drawing from life as I walked the city streets or rode the crowded subway.  These sketches became the basis for my earlier works of sculptured collages, paintings and wood block prints.  I am currently working with Papier Mache, a medium I find both meditative and meticulous.  As I sculpt, I allow some of the lumpier forms to coexist with more refined details, allowing the personality of my subjects to emerge.

My most recent inspiration is my hometown of Bozeman where I live with my husband, three daughters and an Australian Shepherd.  My work reflects the personalities and facial expressions of many of the people and animals I see everyday, as well as the legacy and lifestyle of ranchers and hunters.  We live in a rare place, where daily life is infused with western traditions,  surrounded by beautiful wilderness and vast sky.  By reinterpreting objects such as trophy heads, I hope to give the viewer a fresh, humorous take on our shared cultural inheritance.
